Organize, convert and send e-books to any e-reader

MacFree, open source

The verdict

If you buy e-books from several stores or download free ones, calibre pulls them into one library, converts each book to the format your reader needs and sends it over. It also fills in covers and details and edits EPUB and Kindle files. The interface looks dated next to Apple Books, but no free app comes close for a large collection, and it still gets updates every few weeks.

Get it if

You own a Kindle or Kobo and have e-books from different stores that need converting before they open.

Skip it if

You only read what you bought in Apple Books or Kindle, and those apps already keep your library tidy.
