DigUp
Searches your files by what's inside them, on device
MacFree, open source
The verdict
Describe what's in a file, like a whiteboard photo or the part of a podcast about taxes, and DigUp finds it, using a Google AI model that runs on your Mac. It indexes photos, PDFs, documents, audio and video from the folders you pick, then opens results at the right PDF page or moment in a recording. Exact-word search still works for names and invoice numbers, and your files never leave the Mac.
Get it if
You have years of screenshots, PDFs and recordings on an Apple silicon Mac and can never remember what a file was called.
Skip it if
You mostly search by file name. Spotlight already does that, and DigUp is still a young project.
