Comoji
Slack-style :emoji: shortcuts in every Mac app
MacFree
The verdict
Apple's Text Replacements handle one alias at a time, and the emoji picker means reaching for the mouse. Comoji adds Slack and Discord style colon shortcuts to Messages, Mail, Notes and most other apps, so :liz plus Tab gives you a lizard, and /gif or /sticker brings up a searchable GIF or sticker. It runs locally and costs nothing, though GIFs come from GIPHY over the internet.
Get it if
You type :thumbsup in Slack all day and keep trying it in Messages out of habit.
Skip it if
You rarely use emoji, or the Control-Command-Space picker built into macOS is all you need.
What it helps you do
- Type emoji without leaving the keyboard
- Send GIFs from inside Messages
- Use your Slack emoji habits everywhere
