Who should get which
Get Rectangle if
You juggle windows on a laptop screen and want them side by side without dragging corners.
Get Moom if
You switch between the same window setups every day, like a writing layout and a meeting layout.
Skip Rectangle if
You keep every app in full screen and rarely need 2 windows next to each other.
Skip Moom if
You only put 2 windows side by side, which macOS tiling or free Rectangle already handles.
Our verdicts
Rectangle
Free and open source, Rectangle snaps Mac windows to halves, thirds and corners with a keyboard shortcut or a drag to the screen edge, and pressing the shortcut again cycles through sizes. A Tile All action spreads every open window across the screen at once. Magnet charges $4.99 for the same basic snapping, and the only catch here is that version 2 needs macOS 14 or later, with 1.100 kept for older Macs.
Moom
The current version is only sold on Many Tricks' own site, while the Mac App Store still carries the older Moom Classic for $6.99. Hover over a window's green button to snap, resize or move it with 1 click, and save whole layouts to restore later. macOS now tiles windows to halves and quarters by itself and Rectangle does more of that free, so the $15 is really for saved layouts.
